To better protect vulnerable groups against the risk of gambling addiction, as of July 1, 2023, untargeted advertising for online gambling is no longer allowed. Advertisements on the web (including display/Rich Media) are permitted if at least 95% of the people reached can be verified to be 24 years of age or older. Additionally, 'recipients' must also have the option to indicate that they do not want to receive this advertising (anymore).
This change has been implemented by major publishers in their privacy policies and through their consent management platforms. Advertisers themselves have an opt-in feature on their websites through a pop-up message that asks, 'Are you 24 years or older?' This ensures compliance with the law. However, there is now a solution in place for recipients to easily change their preferences if they are currently seeing advertisements.
Opting out from the advertisement
In collaboration with IGMN, Adhese, and DSLab, we now offer 'recipients' of Rich Media banners the option to indicate directly that they are no longer interested in these advertisements. It's an active opt-out feature.
So, how does this work?
In each advertisement, you can find an information 'i' icon in the upper right corner where the user can get more details about the advertisement. As soon as a user indicates that they no longer wish to see gambling-related advertisements, they will be automatically excluded from these and other betting campaigns.
Additionally, the respective banner is immediately made invisible, so the user doesn't have to see it anymore.
